Alasdair Gray Bursary Winner Announcement

Folksinger Iona Fyfe has been awarded the Alasdair Gray Inspring Scotland Bursary for her project 'Away from my Window'; an ethnomusicology project researching and recording folksongs from the North East of Scotland, drawing inspiration from Scottish source and revivalist singers with the aim to produce a concept album and performance piece.

Upon accepting her bursary, Iona said:

“It’s an honour to be awarded the Alasdair Grey Inspiring Scotland Bursary. This is such a great support for young arts practitioners in Scotland and I’m delighted that it will support my project 'Away From My Window'. I have been creating an album, which combines in depth ethnographic research and musical collaboration to nurture Aberdeenshire balladry and encapsulate traditional song through modern interpretation. The album is due out in early 2018 and the support that the Alasdair Grey bursary provides will help it get there!"

Iona will be touring around Scotland to launch the album this spring, see below for details. She will also be appearing on the Janice Forsyth show on April 3rd so tune in to hear her talk more about the project.
