Inspiring Scotland Bursary sees Writer go to Brazil

The Saltire Society was delighted that as part of the Inspiring Scotland Bursaries writer Helen McClory was able to attend the Kaaysá Residency in North Brazil. Kaaysá is a residency for creators who wish to develop their poetic voices within the context of the Brazilian Rain Forest, the Atlantic Ocean and a community of fishermen and indigenous natives.

You read about Helen's experience on the residency HERE.

Helen McClory lives in Edinburgh and grew up between there and the isle of Skye. Her first collection, On the Edges of Vision, was published by Queen's Ferry Press in August 2015 and won The Saltire Society's First Book of the Year 2015. Her debut novel, Flesh of the Peach, was published by Freight in Spring 2017. Her second collection, Mayhem & Death, is out 29th March. There is a moor and a cold sea in her heart.

The Saltire Society Inspiring Scotland’s Bursaries aim to champion emerging talent in Scotland. We hope that by assisting the younger generation to achieve their goals they are encouraged to explore, take risks and innovate. Helen’s residency is also being supported by the Society of Authors, which is able to offer a limited number of grants for residential stays through the Authors’ Contingency Fund.
