Shona Robison

Shona Robison is a Scottish politician, serving as the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Commonwealth Games, Sport, Equalities and Pensioners' Rights and Member of the Scottish Parliament for Dundee City East. She was elected as a Scottish National Party candidate in the 2003 election. Previously she had represented the SNP as an Additional Members System member for North East Scotland, having been elected in the 1999 election.
Born in Redcar, England, she went to Alva Academy, and then gained an MA in Social Sciences at Glasgow University in 1989, and gained a Postgraduate Cert in Community Education, obtained in 1990 at Jordanhill College. Previously she worked for Glasgow City Council's Social Work Department. She was active in the SNP Youth Wing along with figures such as Nicola Sturgeon and Fiona Hyslop.
She was MSP for the North East from 1999-2003 and elected MSP for Dundee East in 2003. Latterly she was Shadow Minster for Health and Social Justice and a member of the Parliament's Health Committee before being appointed Minister for Public Health in the Scottish Government formed after the May 2007 election.
In 2009 she was made Minister for Public Health and Sport in a policy reshuffle. Following the 2011 election, she was made Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, with Michael Matheson taking on the Public Health portfolio.
She is married to Stewart Hosie, who is the Westminster MP for Dundee East and a former National Secretary of the SNP, and who has served as the party's Vice Convenor in charge of Organisation.
