Magi Gibson
1953 -
Poet & Writer
Magi Gibson is well known throughout Scotland and beyond as an award-winning poet, with her third collection, Wild Women of A Certain Age, striking a strong chord with women from all walks of life. She is also the author of the Seriously Sassy novels, in which thirteen year old Sassy tackles environmental and social issues with fun and heart. With her positive take on what it means to be a girl with a moral and social conscience, Sassy has proved inspirational to girls, not only in Scotland, but around the world from South America to South Africa to Australia. Magi is also the founder of the Wild Women Writing Workshops where the emphasis is on both personal development and writing excellence. In 2009 she was appointed the first Makar of the City of Stirling in 500 years. A popular and skilled creative writing tutor with a gift for nurturing creativity and positive self-image in others, she has specialized in working with some of the most marginalized people in society. She has held three Scottish arts Council Fellowships and is currently Reader in Residence with Glasgow Women's Library where she is pioneering a ground-breaking model of bibliotherapy, Women Reading for Wellbeing.
“There is no doubt that Gibson is an important poet in Scotland today, arguably one of the most important, as her growing readership attests.” Cencrastus editorial
“My daughter loves these (Seriously Sassy books) and has now converted to eco warrior herself. A great move on from some of the girlie books, well-written and funny.”
