Louise Welsh

Louise Welsh is the author of six novels, most recently A Lovely Way to Burn (John Murray 2014). She has written many short stories and articles and presented over twenty programmes for BBC Radio, most recently ‘Bannockburn’ for BBC Radio 3, produced by Louise Yeoman. Louise was writer in residence for The University of Glasgow and Glasgow School of Art 2010-2012. She wrote the libretto for the opera ‘Ghost Patrol’, music by Stuart MacRae, a co-production between Scottish Opera and Music Theatre Wales, which premiered at 2012’s Edinburgh Festival and which won a Southbank Award and was shortlisted for an Olivier Award. She has received several awards and international fellowships, including an honorary fellowship on the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (2011) She is co-director of The Empire Café a Commonwealth 2014 Cultural project exploring Scotland’s relationship with the North Atlantic slave trade. Louise lives in Glasgow with the writerZoe Strachan.
