Hannah McGill

Former artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival

A widely published arts critic, Hannah is currently a freelance writer and broadcaster, writing a monthly column for Sight and Sound, covering film for The List and reviewing books for The Scotsman. She is also a published writer of short fiction and drama, and has had plays and short stories broadcast by BBC Radio 4.

As a broadcaster, she has contributed regularly to arts programmes on BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 4, and is a regular panelist on BBC 2’s Review Show. She has also lectured in Film Journalism at the University of Glasgow.

Hannah was Artistic Director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival from 2006 to 2010, and in 2008 was named in Variety Magazine’s Women’s Impact Report as one of 50 female ‘movers and shakers’ in worldwide arts and entertainment.

She has served on juries for numerous international film festivals, the BAFTAs (Outstanding Debut Jury), the Scottish BAFTAs and the British Independent Film Awards.

In 2013 Hannah gave birth to twins girls called Seren and Brodie and she is currently on the Saltire Literary Awards panel.
