Author
Anne Donovan is the author of the short story collection, Hieroglyphics and other Stories (2001), and the novels, Buddha Da (2003), Being Emily (2008) and Gone Are The Leaves (2014), all published by Canongate. Much of her work is set in Glasgow and uses Glasgow voices. Her most recent novel, Gone Are The Leaves (2014), is set in mediaeval times and written mainly in a different form of Scots.
She has also written many other short stories for anthologies, including, most recently, Glasgow Women’s Library 21 Revolutions, and was commissioned to write the stories But and Angel Wings for the charity Artlink. Stories from Hieroglyphics and Other Stories are currently set texts for the SQA National 5 exam.
Buddha Da was shortlisted for the Orange Prize, the Whitbread First Novel Award and the Scottish Arts Council Book of the year. It received a Scottish Arts Council Award, was nominated for the Dublin International IMPAC Award and won Le Prince Maurice Award in Mauritius in 2004.
The short story All That Glisters won the Macallan/Scotland on Sunday Award. Gone Are The Leaves was shortlisted for the Saltire Scottish Literary book of the Year Award 2014.
