Innes White

The National Centre For Excellence In Traditional Music

Innes is an accomplished guitarist, mandolin player, pianist, singer, composer and teaching musician. As a native Gaelic speaker, he is particularly interested in bringing music from various Scottish traditions forward into new and modern settings, having studied these traditions at The National Centre For Excellence In Traditional Music in Plockton.

He has performed extensively throughout Scotland and Europe at high profile events including The Cambridge folk festival, Celtic Connections and the Blas festival. A lot of his performing has been through the Fèisean, having taken part in various Fèis run projects including Fèis Rois’ Ceilidh trail.

Innes was invited to tour with The National Theatre of Scotland’s A little Bird Blown Off Course, having only just left high school. This gave him the opportunity to develop his performance and instrumental skills alongside some of the top musicians in Scotland, as part of “a terrific four-piece band,” (the Scotsman).

Some of Innes recent achievements include being shortlisted as a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, as part of the Mischa MacPherson Trio. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in the Royal Albert Hall in London on 19th February 2014. He also composed a short new work for string quartet to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ronald Center.

Most recently, he was an ambassador for the Fèisean movement, traditional music and the Gaelic language when he participated in a cultural exchange project with the National Celtic Festival of Australia.
